Although L. L. JOHNSON LAW OFFICE prides itself on providing EXCLUSIVE criminal defense representation involving ALL types of criminal offenses, we have extensive experience representing individuals involving all 3 levels of criminal charges: Misdemeanors, Gross Misdemeanors and Felonies.

Misdemeanor
Misdemeanor criminal offenses carry with them a maximum penalty of 90 days jail / $1,000.00 fine.  An example of a misdemeanor offense is “disorderly conduct.”

Disorderly Conduct as defined by Black’s Law Dictionary (7th Edition): 1. Behavior that tends to disturb the public peace, offend public morals or undermine public safety.  Additionally, under Minnesota Statute 609.72, it defines “Disorderly Conduct” as: An offense in which a person recklessly, knowingly and/or intentionally engages in brawling or fighting; indecent exposure, disrupting an assembly or engaging in offensive, obscene, abusive or loud conduct – language tending to arouse alarm, anger or resentment in others.

Gross Misdemeanor

Although less severe than a felony offense, gross misdemeanor criminal offenses carry with them a more substantial penalty than a misdemeanor, that being a maximum penalty of 1 year jail / $3,000.00 fine.  Examples of gross misdemeanor offenses include 3rd Degree DWI, 2nd Degree DWI, theft-shoplifting (depending on the value of the property), assault (depending on the severity and number of past assault convictions, etc.).

Felony
A felony criminal offense is the more serious offense you can face in the criminal justice system.  Felony criminal offenses carry with them at least a year and a day in jail/prison and substantial fines.  Examples of felony offenses include murder, bank robbery, robbery, serious theft crimes, serious assault crimes, drug crimes, arson, burglary, white collar crimes, etc.
